Zeppelin celebrate Grammy honour
Stairway to Heaven is Led Zeppelin's most famous song
Rock legends Led Zeppelin celebrated their Grammy lifetime achievement award at a party in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The British band are one of 10 acts celebrated by the US Recording Academy in recognition of a career that changed the face of rock music.
The Academy said it was honouring "profoundly inspiring figures" who were "legendary performers and archetypal musicians and cultural
ambassadors".
Led Zeppelin, best known for the hit track Stairway to Heaven, were founded by British guitarist Jimmy Page following the demise of his band The
Yardbirds.
Page and bass player John Paul Jones attended the Californian ceremony with Jason and
Zoe, the two children of late drummer John Bonham, to receive their crystal
trophies.
"It's totally overwhelming," said Zoe, who was five when her father died in 1980. "The whole crazy thing about it is that it's a lifetime achievement
award, and he's not here. The legend lives on."
Singer Robert Plant, busy rehearsing for a tour, sent in a video message.
"It wouldn't have taken much just to pop over here and meet everybody, would it really?" said Page. |
